We did this thing today…

So, we did this thing today….

We bought a Sprinter!

For a number of years we have talked about “sprinter life”.  Many people who know us probably dread hearing about it yet again!  So, what is “sprinter life”?  It’s pretty simple, it’s basically living in a Mercedes Sprinter Van.  We love to travel, so what better way to do it than drive around our country in our “home away from home”?!?!

For quite some time we (by we I mean John!) have been looking for a van that meets our criteria.  Everything we came across seemed to be high in mileage or high in price.  We know we are going to put quite a number of miles on this thing so we didn’t want to get a van that has a crazy number of miles on it.  At the same time, we weren’t wanting to spend a fortune on the shell and then spend even more to up fit it to what we want it to be since we know we will have to build it out to make it livable (think of RV on a mini scale to get a visual).

So on Wednesday this week John finally found what we thought would be The One!  After gathering lots of information from Sarita at Godwin Motors in Columbia, we decided to take a trip and check it out!  We left first thing this morning, with Ethan in tow, and they did a good inspection of the van.

After everything checked out well from looking at the van we decided to take it out for a while.  We drove it around for quite some time around Columbia, even finding a spot to park and check out the Farmer’s Market!  Parking will certainly prove to be a challenge in this beast.  Walking the Farmer’s Market gave us some time to think about the van and if we were ready for this purchase or not…

Well, turns out…we were!  After a bit of negotiating and thinking on it over lunch, we made a deal!  Sarita and Isaac were just as excited as we are about it!  They were definitely interested in our plans for the van and super easy to work with during the purchase.  The trip to Columbia was certainly worth it!

So, what’s next?  Well, our first plan was to get it home and in the driveway…this is a big vehicle!  Now that we’ve realized it fits in the driveway, we can start the renovations to make it our 2nd home.  We’ll be working on it for some time I’m sure, but it will be a blast to travel around the country as a family in this thing.  We have a lot of work ahead of us, adding beds and a bathroom.  Not to mention the bike storage and solar panels.  But, we’ll make a journey out of it for sure.  And we won’t be waiting to use it until it’s done.  We’ll be using this van as we work on it…just as we did with the house!  Our next adventure is right around the corner.  In fact, it’s sitting in the driveway!  And, we couldn’t be more excited about where this home on wheels will take us and the memories we will make along the way!

Be sure to stay connected to find out where this adventure will take us…we are excited to start and share with all our friends and family along the way!
