Moving Right Along!

So for the past week, we have lived in the new house full time! It’s been a good and productive week for sure. Things are certainly moving right along and getting done. Here’s a bit of a recap of the week!

The living room is complete! Much like our master bedroom, the living room is covered, floor the ceiling, in shiplap. You’d think, by now, it would be a simple thing. But when working on a home that’s over 100 years old, nothing is simple! Walls are uneven and have bulges through them, which means cutting the boards pretty much one at a time. But, along with some family help, John managed to get the shiplap hung and the living room basically complete!

A lot of “small tasks” gotten taken care of this weekend too! Jody, my brother-in-law, took care of moving the water lines for the washer machine this week (yay! A washer and dryer are in sight!). Our portable storage unit got moved up from the other house. We had some trees taken out…not really a small task I know but since SCDOT handles that it was simple for us! We got the rest of the appliances taken care of. And an awesome glass decor piece that John found in the attic was brought down and set in place. Lots of little things that are bringing it all together and making it our perfect little cottage!

The other real BIG task that was taken care of this weekend was the refinishing of our kitchen floors. As you may remember from previous posts, John found the original hardwoods in the kitchen under a layer of other stuff…including horribly sticky laminate flooring! We are very lucky to have such wonderful friends, and JJ Winn of Winn and Sons flooring came over to help us out! JJ, his son Wesley, and Alan King came over nice and early this morning to take care of these floors for us! I was amazed at how gorgeous the floors were once they were stripped! They are absolutely gorgeous and after a few more coats of the finish the floors will be done and we will be ready for cabinets!

It’s really amazing how far we have come. We even managed to find time this week for double ear infections (yay me!), pedicures, dinner out, and an afternoon out on the tandem bike. It’s getting closer and closer to our little Summerville Paradise and we are continuing to make our mark on the house and make it our own!
