It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared, but it’s been a crazy busy few weeks! Things are coming along at the cottage and we are so close to being done. Here’s a quick recap of where we are…
We have a kitchen!! Like, a full fledge, able to cook in, kitchen! Cabinets became an absolute nightmare and we are still fighting that battle. We literally have a cabinet that was hung on our wall sideways and opens towards the ceiling…no joke! But, even with all the issues on the cabinets, we were able to get the countertops installed. John got all the shiplap up and painted and we were able to get appliances put in. We (by we I mean John!) even cooked the first meal in the kitchen last Thursday! There are some hurdles still…like not having shelves up for our plates and such so they are “stored” in the dishwasher for now. And, we learned our stove doesn’t work due to the fan not moving, so we are waiting for repairs, but we have a functioning kitchen with flowing water and all!
We also got the first step going on the bookshelves for the library. That’s what I’m most excited about! My dad built the shelves for us and now we have to pull out some trip and move some things around to get them installed. They are floor to ceiling on one whole wall in the library, which is the room you walk into from the front door. It’s very exciting and I can’t wait to see the final product once they get installed.

We had a bittersweet moment last week as well. Cole’s Crabshack, which is where we were prior to here, closed last week. While it’s a great step in the direction we want to go, it’s a bittersweet moment because it’s such a delightful and peaceful spot. The good news is we know the new owners and I know for sure they will enjoy the property as much as wee did. It’s definitely in good hands!
The outside is slowly coming along as well. I was surprised with a nice large pink flamingo for the porch on Saturday. John, Todd, and the boys somehow managed to get this crazy big guy from Mt. Pleasant to Summerville in the Mini Cooper with all 4 of them in there as well! It was quite the site to see lol. And the yard work…wow! There has been lots of work going on to get the yard cleared and prepped for the garage. We have selected the layout for the garage and submitted all the documents to the Town of Summerville for permits so now we wait. We have to go to both the Board of Architectural Review and the Zoning Board before we can start the process, but that’s only a few weeks away so hopefully we will be able to get started soon.
With everything going on and getting everything settled, we even managed to hold a gathering at our house over the weekend. Todd came up from Florida for his birthday weekend so we held a little celebration! It was a great time celebrating him and getting a glimpse of what things will be like once we are done with the renovations because I’m sure we will be having lots of gathers in the future!
We are both very excited to be wrapping up the inside projects so we can start moving on to the outside list. It’s been a great adventure so far working on the house together and seeing the transformation come about. I can’t wait to share it with all our friends and family!
